Face Angle at Impact

We are overly obsessed with face angle at address. This is important but not nearly as important as face angle at impact.

Some good golfers may have a 2-degree open face at address, but it is perfectly perpendicular to the target line at impact. In most cases, however, a perfect address face angle is a fairly good indication that the face will get back to this position at impact.

The head path can be outside in (across the target line) by as much as 4 degrees, but this will influence the ball direction by less than 1 degree if the face is pointing at the target line during impact. So face angle is more important than head path.

But to be safe, try to get the head path to be traveling along the target line just before and during impact. And most importantly, make sure the face angle is 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the target line.
